What is the IP rating
IP stands for Ingress Protection ratings provided by the manufacturer to particular gadgets or electronics, i.e. smartphones and tablets.
In this post, I will summarise the best IP ratings for water and dust proofing for iPhones or Android smartphones.
You might have seen in various advertisements of phones that there is an IP68 rating for iPhone 16 Pro or something like that for some other brands as well..
Did you know the meaning of the structure of the IP rating?
Well, the IP ratings consist of two two-digit numbers. off which, the first digit will specify the dust resistance of the phone, which should not be less than 6. and the second digit will specify the water resistance. That means your phone is not dust-proof if the IP rating does not begin with 6. This was about the dust resistance.
IP rating for water resistance criteria
Coming to water-resistance, so if your phone's IP rating begins with 6. but the second number is less. than 4 then your phone is just not. water resistant. If the second number of your IP rating. is four or more than it, Then it is just splash proof. up to 7. and 7 is the mark for water resistant, and 8 is the best IP rating for water resistance. So if your phone has DIP rating of IP67, then you don't have to worry about the dust or water at all. That means your phone can survive up to 10-15 minutes deep underwater.

Although it does not completely guarantee that your phone will still remain in the same condition after some time underwater. But still some brands claim that their phones can survive up to 30 minutes under deep water. Ten Apple also claimed that. their phone survived years underwater deep and is still working.
Conclusion
Even if you have the best Ingress protection rating for your phone. That doesn't mean that dust or water can cause damage to your phone. But if it does, the manufacturer will not take the responsibility to repair or replace your device with a new one for free; you will have to pay for it.
Ultimately, it is just a marketing strategy for brands to promote their smartphones and increase their sales. So you have to protect your device by yourself from water or dust by avoiding making contact with water and dust. And that's good cleaning it.
